Turbo-Alternators Frequency Requirements Expert Team Report
The GCTC during their 2023 second quarter meeting reviewed and adopted the report of the expert team working on the determination of the frequency response requirements for turbo-alternators. The final report of the expert team has since been submitted to the ERB Board for approval. The proposed requirements are expected to be considered as an amendment to the Grid Code. The objective of the study was to come up with a set of frequency requirements for the Turbo-alternators connected to the Interconnected Power System (IPS). These requirements should form part of the specifications for the Grid Code Requirements for Governing (GCR4). This is in line with the provisions of Clause 2.1.4.3 of the Networks Chapter which provides for setting out of the frequency requirements and behaviour of Turbo-alternators through a dynamics study commissioned by the Grid Code Technical Committee (GCTC)
